No commentsOut In Schools rocked Charles Hays, teachers & the QYA!
Ross Johnstone from Out in Schools presented anti-homophobia workshops in two Planning10 classes at Charles Hays last Thursday, May 29th, screened films and led discussion at our Queer Youth Alliance meeting at the Civic that night, and led a Pro-D workshop for teachers Friday, May 30th.
Each event was a great success and we thank Out on Screen / outinschools.com for the visit.

Out on Screen presents in Rupert on Thur.May29th
Out in Schools will be in Planning Classes at Charles Hays Secondary School here in Prince Rupert Thur. May29th, 2008 and after school for a Queer Youth Alliance and Friends screening and discussion. Time and place will be posted soon. Prepare to bring your friends, and eat pizza!
Who? Out in Schools bring amazing films and discussion about queer youth to those who need to hear it (all of us)! Here’s what they say on their site:
“That’s so gay!”
“Out in Schools smashes stereotypes by bringing queer film to local high schools and facilitates discussions on bullying and homophobia. By providing positive queer role models we aim to make schools safer by celebrating diversity.”
Prince Rupert School District teachers and support staff will have the same opportunity on their Professional Development Day, Friday May 30th.
No commentsQYA at Seafest again?
We all know we’d love to see it, so be in it!
Reply here or contact me directly and we’ll set up our first work (and pizza-eating) meeting, on the path to something fabulous. Let’s not make last year’s RupertQYA march in the Seafest Parade a queer oddity!

Congratulations Rupert QYA: Xtra West, the Gay & Lesbian weekly newspaper based out of Vancouver, just announced Prince Rupert’s Queer Youth Alliance is one of three nominees for “Youth Activist of the Year!” Check out last week’s issue or the Heroes list online here.
Here’s what they wrote about us:
“Prince Rupert’s Queer Youth Alliance for having the courage to be out and proud in a northern fishing town where most adults are reluctant to publicly come out. Members of the Alliance say they’re not only finding hitherto unavailab
le support for themselves in the group, but that it’s changing the rest of the community as well. The Alliance even convinced City Hall to let them add a Pride float to last year’s Seafest parade.”
